Bones There was something evil in the forest, of that Kayla was certain. She stood near the tree line, clutching a bone necklace to her chest. The warm night wind whipped about her and tore at her long black tresses, tangling them around her face and arms. She looked down at what she held and shuddered. Glowing white in the moonlight, a cat skull was leering back at her from its place in the center of the leather chord that strung together the various claws and fangs of which the necklace consisted. She had received it as inheritance when her grandmother passed away two years ago. A small paper note had been attached to the clasp. Unable to read it

This is my rendition of a basilisk. They have four eyes (two for normal vision and two for killing things) really small wings and large crests on their neck, underjaw and tail.
I figure that since their wings are so small they'd use them to fan themselves, to keep their body temperature constant. So if ever you're out hiking in the mountains and you hear a faint 'fwapping' sound run away very quickly before it finds and eats you!
Beware the hunting call of the basilisk!!!
